DVD Region Codes
DVD region codes of the
world.
Coming to Japan and wondering if you can watch your
DVD's?
You can watch your DVD's if your dvd's are from Europe
which is region 2, the same as Japan.
DVD movies can contain a region code, denoting which
area of the world it is targeted at, which is completely independent
of encryption. The commercial DVD-video player specification dictates
that players must only play discs that contain their region code.
Why are there different regions?
This allows the film
studios to set different retail prices in different markets and
extract the maximum possible price from consumers. With region coding,
studios can dictate release schedules and prices around the world.
However, many DVD players allow playback of any disc,
or can be modified to do so.

Will my Playstation 2 work in Japan?
A Special Edition Japanese
Playstation 2.
Although
the voltage in Japan is 110 volts and the US is 120 volts, you will
have no problems turning on and playing your PS2. The problem you
will face is that since the games and dvd's are from different region
codes, you will not be able play disks of another region. The only
way to play disks of another region is to get your PS2 moddified.
