To help citizens lead a healthy life, health and welfare
offices (names vary depending on the district) provide a variety
of services.
Illness prevention
To prevent illness, health consultations, health examinations and
vaccinations are provided. There are both charged and free services.
Although some services incur fees, examinations and vaccinations
are much cheaper than those at medical institutions.
Health of mother and child
Consultations, advice and health examinations are provided for pregnancy,
birth and child-rearing.
Mental health
Consultations, advice and hospital introductions are provided for
neurosis, mental illnesses and the mentally impaired.
Diet
Consultations and advice on diet and healthy living are provided
as well as responses to questions and complaints regarding foodstuffs.
Dental health
Consultations on dental health are provided.
