TOKYO - Asian group favorites Japan recovered from an edgy start to blow out China 18-2 in the second game of the inaugural World Baseball Classic on Friday.
Japan had struggled early with pesky China, widely seen as the weakest of the four-team Asian contingent, before winning by a mercy rule that stopped the game after eight innings.
However, less than 16,000 turned up to watch Japan take on China while just 5,000 fans watched South Korea’s win earlier in the day, a major disappointment for organizers.
